Monday marked the first day of school for South Florida children and the Miami Heat celebrated the occasion with their newest free agent signing Amar’e Stoudemire at a local elementary school.

Speaking and mingling with students at a pep rally in Dillard Elementary school, Stoudemire also visited several classrooms to hand out Heat gear and t-shirts to some of the lucky kids. Afterwards, he spoke with local media where he said he’s been working out daily at the AmericanAirlines Arena and meeting several of his new teammates.

The event marked the first time Stoudemire made a public appearance with the Heat as he gears up for the regular season.
