Scott was remembered through an outpouring of tributes by athletes, colleagues and fans on Twitter, as well as statements from his alma mater, the University of North Carolina, which said “his legacy will live on in many ways — as a friend, a son, a father, a professional and, forever, a Tar Heel,” and President Barack Obama.
Amar’e Stoudemire also shared his thoughts on Scott.
“He made it exciting to watch SportsCenter and ESPN. He was a very intelligent man. He was very articulate with the way he discussed things on TV,” Stroudemire said. “He was someone to look up to as far as how to be yourself and really be yourself in a way where it’s intriguing and positive to everyone. He’s really going to be missed. A lot of phrases he used on ESPN and SportsCenter are now culturally phrases used around the world, so he’s a global icon now for, sure.”
