As Amar’e Stoudemire stood and waited to begin his postgame interview session, Iman Shumpert told a group of reporters around him that Stoudemire was ready to talk.

“I ain’t ready,” Stoudemire joked. “I’m not even here. It’s my clone.”

If only the New York Knicks could clone the Stoudemire from Sunday night. The Knicks’ big man had his best game of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 23 efficient minutes to help the Knicks beat the Charlotte Hornets 96-93. He shot 7-for-13 from the field and was exactly the kind of force the Knicks need coming off the bench.

Apparently those red wine baths are doing something right.

“It was a phenomenal effort,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher said. “A lot of people continue to question his ability. To do what he did tonight … and he did it at a high level with a level of aggression and toughness. He meant that.”
