Amar’e Stoudemire continued his book tour Wednesday morning as he made an appearance on LIVE! With Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan.

Stoudemire was brought on to talk about his book series entitlted “STAT: Standing Tall and Talented.” The first question he was asked was how important it is for him to be a role model for kids:

“I think we have been put on a platform to where we have an opportunity to be positive influences to the youth. So I feel like with that being said we should take more of an effort to try and be that type of positive influence for them because they look for us to set a blueprint out for them. So if we do that in a positive way, we can create a better community for everyone.”

Stoudemire also talked about how the death of his father motivated him to write books for children:

“My father and I had a great relationship. He had a heart attack when I was twelve. During those times from twelve to your twenties, those are times where you really need your father for advice. That also started my motivation to want to write this book for the children who are somewhat fatherless and get them to want to read more.”

The interview ended with a “Pop Shot Showdown” in which Stoudemire competed against Kelly and Michael.

When it was all said and done, the current Knick and former New York Giant ended up tying 42-42.

“We’re playing for a tie-breaker.”  Strahan playfully shouted as the show ended. “I will not lose!”
