A little more than a week after announcing his sneaker free agency, New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire has decided to keep his talents in Beaverton, signing a contract extension with Nike today. In a video released through his Twitter account, Stoudemire said, “Ladies and gentleman, it’s been [made] official. I have now signed an extension of my shoe contract with the great shoe company Nike.”

Last week Amar’e alerted his Twitter followers of his sneaker free agency, throwing out the possibility of signing with Nike, Reebok, adidas, Under Armour or another up-and-coming company. We’re not sure exactly which companies made a pitch for STAT, or how aggressive they may have been in doing so, but apparently loyalty and familiarity won out in the end.

That also means that the Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Player Exclusive we showed you earlier may not have been posted in vain. Will Amar’e finally start wearing Nike’s new basketball product this season?
