NEW YORK, NY (December 21, 2010) – New York Knicks All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire announced his Youth Basketball Academies will take place June 13-16, 2011 at Baruch College in New York City.

“I am looking forward to hosting my first Youth and Elite Youth Basketball Academies in New York City.  I always enjoy working with the kids and helping them improve their game,” said Stoudemire.

This year to ensure campers are getting the appropriate training, Stoudemire will offer campers two options based on their basketball skill level.  The Youth Academy will take place from 9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with an early dismissal on Thursday at 2:30 p.m..  This option is best for the 8-14 year old boy or girl who is still developing their basketball skills.  The more experienced basketball player who is on their school or youth traveling team between the ages of 14-18 should sign up for the Elite Youth Academy that will take place from 4:30-9:00pm daily.

Stoudemire and his staff will coach the youth, help them improve their basketball fundamentals, enhance their technique and teach them the skills needed to take their game to the next level through drill stations, player evaluations, games and contests.  The off of the court activities include lectures, educational sessions on diet and strength training.

Stoudemire is focused on helping to develop a positive all around athlete on and off the court.  The hope is that the youth will fully realize their potential in an enriching, fun, and safe environment that encourages teamwork, gamesmanship, self-confidence, respect and dedication to the game. Campers will learn ball handling, rebounding, passing, court spacing, post moves, defensive skills and team offense.

The Youth Academy for ages 8-14 will cost $450 per camper.  The Elite Youth Academy for ages 14-18 costs $350 per camper.  Boys and girls at both camps will receive a Nike t-shirt, photo with Amar’e Stoudemire, a Nike basketball, meal and instruction from some of the top coaches in the area.  Sign up now as space is limited.
